Chapter 1: Heaven makes things difficult for me?

“I have an 8 AM class.”

Midsummer, Jiangning City.

Inside an office building, Lin Mo had just finished his lunch. As he pushed open the office door, he saw a petite figure standing with her hands on her hips, pointing at a middle-aged man in his thirties and cursing him out, the air thick with tension.

But when he saw who the two parties were, he felt it was perfectly reasonable.

The woman’s name was Yuan Meng. She had joined the company a year before him and held the position of a regular employee. The middle-aged man opposite her was Dong Dawei, their department manager.

Logically, a regular employee wouldn't dare speak to a superior like that, but Yuan Meng was the company’s top salesperson. Not only that, but rumor had it her family background was quite good, and she only worked to have something to do. Of course, these were just things Lin Mo had heard in his spare time.

Dong Dawei was a different story. He was quite unpopular among the rank-and-file employees, mainly because he often made things difficult for his subordinates just to suck up to the higher-ups. It would be a miracle if he were well-liked.

As Lin Mo opened the door, the noise inside came to an abrupt halt. Everyone looked at him, a situation that was undeniably awkward.

Just as Lin Mo stood there stunned, the door to the General Manager’s office at the far end opened, and the GM’s irritated voice rang out

“Dong Dawei, what are you doing? What’s all this shouting? Get in here!”

Hearing this, Dong Dawei glared at Yuan Meng and turned to walk toward the GM’s office. Yuan Meng wasn't one to back down; she let out a scoff and flipped him the middle finger.

Seeing the GM’s office door close, Lin Mo hurried over to Yuan Meng and asked, “Sister Yuan, what’s going on? What kind of trouble is Fatty Dong stirring up now?”

Lin Mo was an intern who hadn't graduated yet; he was just here to get an internship certificate. Plus, he had a delicate, handsome look with a particularly clear and naive gaze, and a decent personality, so he got along well with most of his colleagues.

“What else could it be? You know about the company team-building trip this weekend, right?”

Seeing him approach, Yuan Meng took a deep breath and asked.

“I know. Wasn't it announced three days ago?” Lin Mo replied.

Yuan Meng sneered, “The notice was changed at the last minute. It went from voluntary to mandatory, and the out-of-pocket cost increased from 200 to 500 per person. Ugh, are they crazy for money or what!”

Hearing this, Lin Mo’s eyes widened. It was already annoying that the weekend team-building was at their own expense—he hadn't planned on going anyway—but he hadn't expected them to make it mandatory and increase the cost. Who could stand that?

“Huh? They can do that?” Lin Mo frowned.

Before Yuan Meng could answer, a round, pale face leaned in

“It’s almost certain. The latest news is that some leaders from the head office are coming soon. Our bosses have to entertain them, right? Some say Fatty Dong suggested increasing the team-building budget so they could use the leftover money to host the leaders and kiss up to them.”

The newcomer was Zhang Wei, the office’s resident gossip king who loved rumors.

“Where did you hear this?” Lin Mo asked.

“Heard someone heard it in the bathroom while taking a dump. It’s just a rumor.”

Lin Mo: “...”

A rumor indeed. A "leaked" one, at that.

As the three whispered, the other employees returning to the office began to discuss it as well, and soon, complaints filled the room.

Just then, the GM’s office door opened, and a woman in black silk stockings and high heels walked out—the GM’s secretary.

“Yuan Meng from the Sales Department, the General Manager wants to see you.”

At once, everyone’s eyes turned to the petite Miss Yuan.

There was no need to guess; it was definitely about what just happened. With Yuan Meng, the top salesperson, openly opposing it and even getting into a shouting match with the department manager, the company wouldn't be able to hold the team-building event without resolving this. Something was bound to happen, after all—Yuan Meng was a local celebrity in the company.

“Sister Yuan, this doesn't look good!” Lin Mo whispered with a smirk.

Yuan Meng sneered, “You think your Sister Yuan is afraid of him?”

Lin Mo shook his head repeatedly. “No, no, I’m just saying, you’re the top salesperson who’s landed several huge deals for us. You’ve seen it all, so don't lose your cool!”

Zhang Wei also leaned in with his round face. “Right, keep your spirits up!”

Hearing this, Yuan Meng glanced at them, took a deep breath, tossed her thick braid over her shoulder, and flicked her right hand

“TOM.”

Then, she marched off on her short legs, following the secretary. Every time she passed a colleague, she received a look of admiration, and many even gave her a thumbs-up, as if to say, “Good job, Sister Yuan.”

As Yuan Meng walked into the GM’s office, before the door even closed, everyone heard her shrill roar

“Fatty Dong, I f*ck...”

With a ‘bang,’ the door shut. Even without hearing the rest, everyone knew what had happened inside.

Lin Mo and Zhang Wei exchanged a look and simultaneously gave a thumbs-up.

“Sister Yuan is a beast.” *2

As the afternoon work hours began, everyone returned to their desks.

Sitting in front of his computer, Lin Mo soon put on his "mask of pain." He was a computer science major, essentially a programmer-in-training, but he didn't know any high-end tech—just some common sense—and could only handle simple tasks.

Fortunately, the veteran employee Old Wang told him it was normal not to know things; he should learn while doing. Learn on the job!

So, Lin Mo quickly opened his phone, clicked on a link Old Wang had sent him, and started watching the video tutorial to figure things out on his own.

Suddenly, his phone screen turned blue, giving him a fright.

“Damn, did I get a virus?!”

Lin Mo immediately activated the passive skill of every citizen and gave his phone two slaps.

Believe it or not, it worked.

However, an unknown ad pop-up appeared on the screen

[One order a day, no group buying, no bargaining, no recruiting, absolutely authentic.]

Below were four items, taking up the entire screen

[Ten-minute crash course for beginner programmers, ¥0.51]

[Pink Desert Eagle pistol, comes with 300 rounds: ¥2.85]

[Lamborghini Black Gold Edition V12, special sale: ¥12.9]

[24k solid gold gourd pendant, 7.8 grams, clearance price: ¥1.89]

Lin Mo: “...”

He glanced at it and rolled his eyes. The pop-up had that classic Pinduoduo style; he knew exactly what this was.

He swiped the screen to exit, but his smile vanished instantly. The moment his finger touched the first option, the screen jumped to the payment page, and it immediately showed that he had paid 51 cents.

“Damn, password-free payment? When did I set that up?”

Looking at the successful payment page, Lin Mo felt like crying. He planned to uninstall the app later. At least it wasn't much money, or his heart would really ache.

But soon, his eyes filled with shock. The screen began playing the programming tutorial video, and a bald man started yapping away.

Miraculously, as the man explained, Lin Mo found that he actually understood it. It was as simple as a high schooler doing second-grade math. Ten minutes passed, and he had already mastered entry-level programming knowledge.

After a long while, Lin Mo muttered in disbelief

“Could it be that I’m actually a genius?”

“Am I a genius?”
