Even if you belong to a demonic cult, you must still bring glory to the country.

Chapter 6: Taking a Job as a Stunt Double

Zhinian cast a curious glance.

Unfortunately, although she could understand spoken words, the writing system was entirely different. The difficulty of literacy was simply too high. Zhinian was only vaguely familiar with a few characters, yet she could not glean any meaning from them.

Li Sui let out a "whoa" when she saw the message on her phone after returning with the takeout.

The person on WeChat was her high school classmate, Yu Liangliang.

Male, and shared the same sexual orientation as Li Sui.

Their relationship was actually very close, simply because back in high school, Yu Liangliang had sensed his own unconventional orientation. Being sensitive and insecure, he had been subjected to campus bullying by a group of boys.

Li Sui had descended from the heavens like a savior, acting as a Bodhisattva for him. From then on, Yu Liangliang followed her lead blindly.

Later, he entered the entertainment industry—not as a star, but as a minor agent—and he had never lost contact with Li Sui. He wasn't particularly capable and couldn't scout any rising stars; the artists he managed were mostly unknown newcomers assigned to him by the company. Any artist who showed even a glimmer of potential would immediately be snatched away by other agents.

Yu Liangliang had a good temperament and let anyone walk all over him, but he refused to give up on this profession. He had traveled to many film sets with his artists. Although the entertainment industry was brutally realistic in its tendency to favor the high and trample the low, most people were just ordinary folks, and there were many instances of people huddling together for warmth. Relying on his personality, Yu Liangliang had built a network of many unknown connections. Opportunities that small artists looked down upon, but stunt roles that even extras couldn't grab, would often be passed to Yu Liangliang first.

As soon as the name Zhou Jiao came up, he thought of Li Sui's recent free time.

Li Sui had good combat skills and was hardworking, making her a perfect martial stunt double. Most importantly, Yu Liangliang knew her physique was very similar to Zhou Jiao's.

Someone of Zhou Jiao's status would certainly have professional stunt doubles, but that particular double had recently gone back to her hometown for some business, leaving a three-day gap in filming. Zhou Jiao was delicate and precious; her agent wouldn't dare let her actually go out and fight, so they had to find someone to fill in.

Since childhood, Li Sui had possessed slightly more strength than the average person. Otherwise, given her mental state—which was identical to Wu Yang's—she would have been beaten up long ago.

After traveling back in time, although she couldn't cultivate internal energy, she couldn't afford to do nothing at all. Under the supervision of the members of the Demonic Cult, she had actually learned some proper martial arts. In the modern world, she wouldn't have any trouble handling a commoner in a fight.

Li Sui just hadn't expected that right after reading information about her scumbag father, she would run into someone related to him. However, she didn't think much of it; there was no way Zhou Jiao would know her.

While Zhinian was busy studying the takeout, Li Sui quickly replied to Yu Liangliang: [Come, I'm definitely coming. When?]

Yu Liangliang replied quickly as well: [If you're coming, it's this afternoon. We happen to be in Xia City, so if it works out, we can sign the contract directly. This production is loaded; they've rented a residence said to have belonged to an old Prince. You can come and broaden your horizons.]

Li Sui had no interest in prince's mansions or ancient architecture. She had seen all there was to see during those years in ancient times. It was just a pity she hadn't managed to bring back any antiques; it was mainly because her return had been too sudden.

"Sect Leader, what is this?"

Beside her, Zhinian had already opened one of the takeout containers, which held a portion of braised pork.

"Braised pork. Isn't this what you've always wanted to eat?"

When Li Sui had traveled back in the past, that era had no such thing as braised pork; meat was a luxury. She had only vaguely painted a "big picture" for the members of the Demonic Cult. Setting aside the fact that seasonings, meat, and sugar were luxuries unimaginable in that society, she also didn't know how to cook. However, her descriptions were very evocative, so Zhinian had always believed it was a precious dish reserved only for royalty.

She had remembered the braised pork and had always told Li Sui that she wanted to eat it. Now, seeing this bowl of bright red meat emitting a stunning aroma, Zhinian fell into a rare silence.

Li Sui glanced at it: "It's just from a takeout shop. It definitely won't be as delicious as something freshly made, and it might even be pre-prepared food. But this place has a good reputation. When we have time, I'll take you to the restaurant to eat it fresh; it'll be even better. Let's just make do with this for lunch."

Li Sui portioned out the food for Zhinian, telling her not to be polite.

Looking at the delicious food, which was entirely different from the fragrant dishes of the past, Zhinian knew that the "big picture" the Sect Leader had described before was not a lie meant to deceive them. So, places where one could eat meat anytime, anywhere, truly existed.

Judging by the Sect Leader's appearance just now, she had clearly just placed an order on her phone, and it had been delivered directly. And yet, she was complaining that the meat wasn't good enough.

Zhinian finally understood why, despite being adopted by the old Sect Leader of the Demonic Cult, the seemingly orphaned Li Sui possessed an air of innocence, as if she were unaware of the ways of the world. At the time, they all thought the Sect Leader was a princess from some small country who had drifted into the Central Plains.

When she took her first gentle bite, the deliciousness in her mouth was so intense she nearly bit her tongue. It was just that in ancient times, seasonings were scarce, and food was generally low in oil and salt. Their diet was typically light. This braised pork was somewhat heavy in flavor, but it was a heaviness that made Zhinian's eyes well up with tears.

If only, if only they were all still...

She immediately blinked and quickly regained a joyful smile, not wanting the Sect Leader to see any sign of her emotion.

"Oh, right!"

Li Sui certainly wouldn't leave Zhinian home alone this afternoon. Although she didn't have an ID card, no one would know she was an undocumented resident if she didn't speak.

Li Sui said enthusiastically, "I'm going to work this afternoon. I'll take you to wander around the film set. Once filming is done, I'll take you to eat hotpot. I'll take you to eat all the delicacies of this era!"

Zhinian certainly didn't understand anything about filming, but as long as Li Sui said it, she would have no objections.

After eating, Li Sui cleaned up the dishes, packed the trash, and bought a set of clean undergarments for Zhinian. She washed them with water and used the dryer to dry them so Zhinian could change into them for now. Xia City was quite humid year-round, so many people owned dryers.

Of course, she wore her own clothes first.

Although Zhinian was a "demon girl" of the Demonic Cult, her frame was much more slender than Li Sui's, standing about 1.65 meters tall. Li Sui was 1.75 meters, a height that allowed her to tower over many in Xia City. Her arms and thighs were firm and powerful, a result of years of "oppressing" the neighbors in her residential complex and exercising by carrying two children at a time. Her legs were firm and long, exuding an indescribable sense of strength. However, she didn't look bulky; she was the perfect example of someone who looked fit when clothed and curvaceous when undressed.

Her clothes were much too large on Zhinian. Even a T-shirt could serve as a dress for her.

In ancient times, society was far less conservative than modern imagination suggested; it was normal for farm women working in the fields to roll up their clothes to reveal a bit of leg or arm. Zhinian wore a T-shirt as a dress, leaving her fair calves completely exposed.

Setting aside the fact that she was a rebellious woman of the Demonic Cult, even if she weren't, she would have accepted it well. When she arrived this morning, most people, regardless of gender, were wearing ultra-short shorts!

The Sect Leader was the same! Who could blame them when Xia City was so incredibly hot?

When Li Sui took Zhinian out, she could completely shield her. But who could have imagined that Zhinian could, in one breath, beat someone like her to death without even trying?
