Chapter 14: Changing Household Registration

While An Jianping was still busy in Jiang Village, it was also time for An Songyu to head to work.

Upon arriving at the hotel, she did not go to see Sister Xia immediately. Instead, she completed all her current tasks first, only taking advantage of a break to explain her request to Sister Xia.

Wan Lixia did not press for specific details, but she didn't agree immediately either. After all, anything involving the schedule was no longer just a matter between the two of them. It was particularly late—it was already Sunday—when An Songyu finally made the request.

For the rest of the day, An Songyu kept thinking about it. Fortunately, she had smoothed out her workflow in the preceding days, which allowed her to handle her duties smoothly even when she couldn't give them her full concentration.

At dinner, An Songyu whispered to her friend: "Yingying, I'm planning to head back to school next week to handle some matters."

Yu Yingying was momentarily stunned and quickly asked, "Which day next week? Have you already applied for leave?"

"I'm not quite sure. I only spoke to Sister Xia today, so I don't know which day she'll schedule my day off," An Songyu replied, feeling quite troubled.

Yu Yingying felt a deep sense of regret. "Then it looks like it'll be hard for us to have our days off together."

"My day off for next week is already confirmed—it's Thursday!"

"That's still not certain!" An Songyu quickly comforted her friend.

As it turned out, before the end of the shift that evening, the supervisor, Sister Xia, announced the schedule for the following week. An Songyu's day off was listed first: tomorrow.

This arrangement naturally made An Songyu extremely happy. Before clocking out, she quietly expressed her gratitude to Sister Xia.

"You don't need to thank me!" Wan Lixia waved her hand dismissively, but she still offered a kind reminder: "However, if something like this comes up next time, you need to come to me earlier."

"Even though the schedule is announced on Sundays, it's basically finalized around Friday. This time, it was only because the person originally scheduled for Monday was willing to swap shifts with you. But if it's something truly urgent, you can communicate with your colleagues in advance next time and then come to me to arrange it."

This time, she had made the effort because An Songyu had only recently started her internship and wasn't fully aware of how the scheduling worked. Otherwise, she wouldn't have gone to such lengths to coordinate for her.

Hearing this, An Songyu felt even more grateful. She quickly stated that she had noted it and would make sure to bring up such matters earlier in the future.

Wan Lixia was satisfied with An Songyu's tact and signaled for her to get back to work.

The reason An Songyu was able to intern at the hotel was not only due to a recommendation from the Hotel Financial Director but also because she was a genuine university student. While this didn't matter much to ordinary front desk staff, it gave small leaders like Wan Lixia a sense of crisis.

Fortunately, An Songyu had never displayed any college student arrogance or the entitlement of a "connected" hire. In fact, she was very steady in both her character and her work. Furthermore, she didn't seem to have any intention of staying at the hotel long-term. Because of this, Wan Lixia was willing to go the extra mile to help her this time.

Back at the front desk, her colleagues could clearly sense An Songyu's happiness. Taking advantage of a lull in guests, they quickly whispered to ask what happened. Hearing that An Songyu had successfully secured tomorrow off, they were all quite happy for her.

Strictly speaking, An Songyu did not work the same shifts as the others. Because she was studying hotel management and had picked up the hotel management system exceptionally fast, her hours were not identical to the three-shift rotation of the other front desk colleagues.

She worked alongside another veteran colleague who had been responsible for the front desk system since before An Songyu arrived. They were split into morning and evening shifts. The morning shift was from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, while the evening shift started at 2:00 PM and ended at 10:00 PM.

The other colleagues rotated through three shifts: the morning shift from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the afternoon shift from 4:00 PM to midnight, and the night shift, which was a full overnight rotation.

An Songyu had been interning for nearly a month and had worked both the morning and evening shifts. Combined with the rotating schedules of the others, she had managed to get along well with most of her colleagues.

Yu Yingying's department, the pastry section, did not have the exact same schedule as An Songyu's, but her finish time was also quite late. At 10:00 PM, as soon as An Songyu finished her shift handover, she rushed to find her friend.

Hearing that she could go back to school tomorrow, Yu Yingying was both envious and regretful. "It's such a pity our days off aren't the same! Otherwise, I would have gone back to school with you."

"What's so fun about going back to school right now? All our classmates are out doing internships. If you go back, you'll only see teachers and juniors!" An Songyu comforted her. "The things I need to do tomorrow aren't too complicated. Is there anything you want me to bring you? Whether it's something from the dorm or something to buy in Nanshi, just leave it to me!"

Yu Yingying was amused by her friend's sweeping offer. But thinking carefully, there didn't seem to be anything she particularly wanted. There were some specific foods in Nanshi she craved, but they wouldn't be easy to transport, so she didn't mention them. She felt a bit sorry that her friend had no desires, but remembering that An Songyu was going back for serious business, she dropped the subject.

She would let An Songyu handle things as she saw fit. If there was time, she would naturally prepare what her friend needed. After all, they had lived and eaten together for nearly four years and knew each other very well.

That night, An Songyu quietly told An Songxiang about her day off tomorrow. An Songxiang immediately breathed a sigh of relief. She had already inquired about the process for transferring the household registration (hukou) today.

For sisters in their situation, the most important thing was to first obtain the receiving procedures so the registration could be transferred. When An Jianping returned today, he had already completed these procedures for the two sisters. Once the sisters' paperwork was finalized tomorrow, he could go back to Jiang Village and directly settle their residency.

However, the residency An Jianping intended to settle was not limited to just the two sisters. But for now, An Songyu and her sister were unaware of this.

Early the next morning, An Songyu boarded a long-distance bus to Nanshi. The distance between Shuncheng and Nanshi was not too great. The bus ride took only about two hours, and An Songyu arrived at Nanshi University.

Carrying the receiving documents from Jiang Village, she first sought out her instructor and quickly understood the process for transferring her student files. Generally speaking, it wasn't very complicated. However, during the process, she was questioned several times by school officials.

After all, the place where An Songyu was settling her residency was neither a workplace nor her original registered address; instead, it was a rural area outside the city. To the school officials, this was extremely difficult to understand.

It was only after An Songyu repeatedly explained that it was her father's hometown and that this transfer was her father's wish that they proceeded. Although the school officials still couldn't quite grasp it, they smoothly completed the paperwork for her.

After all, with the implementation of the school's dual-selection system and the abolition of subsidized housing, having one's residency tied to a workplace was no longer a necessity. Of course, many students still chose to do so, as most universities were located in prosperous cities. Being able to settle residency in a good city was much better than moving it back to the countryside like An Songyu.
