Beast Taming from Zero

Chapter 27: Interstellar Betting Network

After hanging up the phone, Qiao Sang hurriedly found her teacher's number and dialed it.

She didn't want her teacher to see a missed call from her mother and call her back.

No one answered.

Qiao Sang continued to call. After five consecutive, relentless attempts, the ringing changed from "no answer" to "the number you have dialed is powered off."

Left with no choice, Qiao Sang gave up after sending a text message.

Fire Fang Dog kept its head tilted, staring out the window.

Qiao Sang followed its gaze.

At an altitude of hundreds of meters, an advertising airship measuring approximately 30m x 19m was moving slowly, carrying a television screen.

Pedestrians could occasionally see these types of airships if they looked up; they usually broadcasted the latest trending news and sporting events.

Currently, the television screen on the outside of the airship was prominently displaying an interview regarding the Interstellar Cup.

"What are your thoughts on your upcoming opponent?" one of the reporters asked.

"Bodrai is an outstanding Beast Tamer. His tactical combinations are diverse and unpredictable. Especially in the recent match where he went from the top 24 to the top 22—that move where his Earth Calamity Hound and Twin-Headed Serpent Dragon combined for the 'Turn Calamity into Turn Calamity' was absolutely stunning. I believe you all saw it as well."

The person answering was Lin Ya, the man Qiao Sang had seen in the center of the mall last time, the one with the Giant Sky Toad.

"This is your third time participating in the Interstellar Cup. You were stopped in the top ten in the previous two editions. Do you have confidence in achieving a better result this time?" the reporter followed up.

"We are all top-tier Beast Tamers in the galaxy; I have no confidence," Lin Ya said with a smile.

The interviewing reporters looked at each other, clearly not expecting such an answer.

"However, I will work hard," Lin Ya added.

"On the Interstellar Betting Network, your odds and Bodrai's odds are 1.89 and 1.23, respectively. What is your take on the fact that your odds are higher than Bodrai's?" another reporter asked.

"Everyone should bet cautiously," Lin Ya said with a casual smile.

Qiao Sang stared blankly at the interview on the airship's screen for a moment before lowering her head to search for the Interstellar Betting Network on her phone.

The Interstellar Betting Network was the official betting website of the Alliance. While there were other large and small websites for betting on Interstellar Cup matches, in terms of security and credibility, one had to look to the Interstellar Betting Network.

Without hesitation, Qiao Sang placed a bet of 5,000 Alliance Coins on Bodrai.

Although Lin Ya was the representative of Blue Star and the only person from the Dragon Kingdom participating in the Interstellar Cup, Bodrai's odds were lower. These odds were calculated through rigorous computations by the betting companies; barring any unforeseen circumstances, the difference in odds represented the probability of their victory or defeat.

Qiao Sang chose to trust the data provided by the betting company.

In addition to the match between Lin Ya and Bodrai, Qiao Sang also spent another 5,000 Alliance Coins betting on another upcoming match, also following the win probability.

After placing the bets, Qiao Sang felt refreshed, feeling as though she had made a bit of money.

...

...

In the blink of an eye, it was June 9th.

8:50 AM.

Hanggang Sixth Beast Taming High School.

Fire Fang Dog looked around with high spirits, its limbs moving with a light gait; the 10kg weighted ring on its right front limb no longer had any effect on it.

Qiao Sang, however, walked toward the designated location with unsteady steps. The dark circles under her eyes were exceptionally prominent against her fair skin, making it obvious she hadn't slept well last night.

Qiao Sang couldn't help but yawn. Due to the interstellar time difference, she had stayed up until 3:00 AM last night to finish watching the match between Lin Ya and Bodrai.

Since it involved her money, sacrificing a little sleep was naturally nothing.

As it turned out, she ended up staying up until morning.

Before 3:00 AM, she stayed up to watch the match; after 3:00 AM, she stayed up purely because she was too angry to sleep.

Lin Ya had won.

Her 5,000 Alliance Coins were gone...

What kind of nonsense data and odds did that betting company provide? Completely unreliable!

As expected, gambling is harmful. Qiao Sang could now only hope that the other match would allow her to recoup some of her losses; otherwise, she would have to cut back on the bottles of Qiyuan Milk she bought every day.

*Fire Fang Dog, I'm sorry!*

Fire Fang Dog was full of curiosity about the new environment, looking around eagerly, having no idea that the Qiyuan Milk it loved to drink every day might be in jeopardy.

The Admissions Office of the Sixth Beast Taming High School.

The door was slightly ajar, and the voices of several people talking could be heard from outside. Qiao Sang knocked on the door.

"Come in," a deep voice called out from inside.

Qiao Sang pushed the door open and entered.

The people inside instantly fell silent, their eyes turning in unison toward Qiao Sang and the Fire Fang Dog beside her.

Inside the office sat four men and two women, all appearing to be over the age of thirty.

Qiao Sang was a bit bewildered. Wasn't today the special recruitment day? Why hadn't she seen anyone her own age? And why were these people staring at her? It was quite strange...

"Hello, teachers. I am here for the special recruitment," Qiao Sang said to the middle-aged man closest to her.

Since they were all seated and possessed the unique aura of teachers, Qiao Sang simply chose the nearest person to state her purpose.

"You must be Qiao Sang. I am the Vice Principal of this school," Chen Shengtang said warmly.

He suppressed the uncontrollable excitement in his heart, flashing a standard eight-tooth smile, trying his best to appear kind and approachable.

One had to realize that the person before him was the only "Self-Awakened" special recruit to apply to their school since its founding!

Self-Awakened Beast Tamers possessed a natural advantage in beast taming, as they could expand their brain regions more quickly. There were only about forty such talents in the entire Zhehai Province in a year. Once discovered, they were almost always fast-tracked or specially recruited into the top-tier Beast Taming High Schools; there would be nothing left for a school like theirs!

But this year, such a talent had chosen to apply to their school!

This excitement had made him wait here since early morning, and he had finally met this student, Qiao Sang.

The more Chen Shengtang looked at Qiao Sang, the more satisfied he became. Not only was she good-looking, but she dared to contract a Fire-type as her first pet—she had guts!

And she applied to their school—she had vision!

*To think she's actually the Vice Principal...*

"Hello, Vice Principal." Qiao Sang found it a bit strange that a Vice Principal would recognize her, but she didn't have time to think much about it. She quickly took out her information card and her Self-Awakening certificate and handed them over.

Although she had already registered online, the necessary procedures still had to be followed. The information had to be verified in person, and her brain region development level had to be re-tested to avoid any oversights.

Qiao Sang kept her expectations low for this special recruitment at Hanggang Sixth Beast Taming High School. Passing was a certainty, and her heart was currently set on Shengshui High School; she was only coming to this school to secure a backup plan.

"Have you had breakfast?" Chen Shengtang asked with a smile, not rushing to verify the information.

"If you haven't eaten, the breakfast in our school canteen is quite hearty. I can take you to eat," a female teacher wearing glasses said kindly.

Chen Shengtang gave her a satisfied look.

The female teacher sitting by the window felt a bit sour.

*So good at reading the room; no wonder she became the Dean of Students at such a young age.*

"I've eaten," Qiao Sang replied.

*The teachers at this school seem quite nice...*

Chen Shengtang lowered his head and looked at the Self-Awakening certificate as if casually, but his main purpose was to check the degree of brain region development.

As he looked, his heart tightened.

[Brain Region 5%—9%, high fluctuation, uncertain, requires re-confirmation after stabilization]
