Beast Taming from Zero

Chapter 10: Watching TV

Just as Qiao Sang was giggling, her phone vibrated. It was a message from Fang Sisi.

Qiao Sang composed her expression and tapped on it, only then noticing that her deskmate had sent eight or nine messages in succession since yesterday.

【Why didn't you come to class today?】

【I just heard people saying the old man called your mom in yesterday, is it true!!!】

【Did your mom find out you got a zero on the test?】

【Why are you ignoring me】

【Are you there? Are you there?】

【Why didn't you come to class today either!】

【Why did your mom come to school again? Nothing happened to you, right!】

The last one had just been sent.

【Have you evaporated into thin air?】

Qiao Sang tapped on her phone.

【Still alive】

She received a reply almost immediately.

【Wow, so you are still alive】

【Why haven't you been to school these past two days? You have no idea how dark the old man's face has been】

Qiao Sang thought for a moment.

【It's summer now, are you sure he isn't just tanned?】

……

After chatting for a bit, Qiao Sang told Fang Sisi the reason she had asked for leave.

Fang Sisi didn't believe her at all.

It wasn't that she looked down on Qiao Sang, but rather that spontaneous awakening had only ever happened to people with extraordinary talent.

They were basically the top students in the school; even in the rare cases where they didn't like studying, they would be exceptionally outstanding in other areas.

As for Qiao Sang, whose grades were even worse than her own, it was absolutely impossible.

Qiao Sang didn't argue; she simply went to her room, took a photo of the spontaneous awakening certificate, and sent it over.

The other side went silent.

It took over ten minutes for Fang Sisi to send a message back.

Qiao Sang looked down, and the corner of her mouth twitched.

【If you get rich, don't forget about me】

……

……

Qiao Sang hadn't forgotten about the Fat Pigeon. She took out the food specifically for it from the cupboard and placed it in front of it before thinking about herself.

She made a simple bowl of egg fried rice to satisfy her hunger, and by the time she finished, it was already 14:07.

Perhaps because it had been a busy morning, the Fire Tooth Dog was curled up on the sofa, sleeping soundly.

Qiao Sang didn't disturb it.

She had originally planned to take her certificate to the Beast Taming Center that afternoon, but seeing the Fire Tooth Dog sleeping so peacefully, she changed her mind.

Qiao Sang walked softly to her room, picked up a copy of *Analysis of Extraordinary Creatures: Grade 9, Semester 2*, and leaned against her bed to read.

It was only when she was checking the Beast Taming Codex and information about spontaneous awakeners on her phone earlier that she realized the high school entrance exam wasn't as simple as her deskmate had said.

The entrance exam tested paper-based knowledge, but once you awakened through magnetic wave stimulation, you would receive additional points for brain domain development: 1% development was 20 points, and 2% was 40 points.

With a total score of 650, this percentage didn't really amount to much.

The Ministry of Education did indeed value spontaneous awakeners, and they released a series of recruitment policies for them every year, but none of them allowed someone who scored a zero to enter a beast taming high school.

You could get into a vocational high school, but Qiao Sang didn't want that.

Spontaneous awakeners could enter beast taming high schools through two paths: recommendation or special recruitment.

Recommendation required not only a quota but also an assessment of the student's grades over the three years of middle school. The school would send the student's information to the desired beast taming high school for enrollment qualification review.

With Qiao Sang's grades, which were consistently third from the bottom of her class, even if she were a spontaneous awakener, the school probably wouldn't have the face to recommend her.

The remaining option, special recruitment, was Qiao Sang's choice.

The 108 beast taming high schools in Hanggang City released special recruitment policies every year. Each person was limited to applying to two schools. Once the information was verified, they could participate in the corresponding exams.

Those who passed the special recruitment exam still had to take the high school entrance exam.

Only by reaching the designated score on the entrance exam could they get into a beast taming high school.

Although the required scores varied by school, one thing remained the same—the entrance exam.

Qiao Sang felt a bit helpless; in the end, she still had to take the entrance exam.

……

……

At dusk, the sound of the Fire Tooth Dog came from the living room.

Qiao Sang put down her book and walked out of the room.

"Ya!"

The Fire Tooth Dog leaped into Qiao Sang's arms.

Qiao Sang stroked the Fire Tooth Dog's head, her heart melting.

She had chosen the Fire Tooth Dog simply because it caught her eye, but she hadn't expected it to be so well-behaved. This must be fate.

The girl and the beast sat on the sofa watching TV.

The Fat Pigeon, being large, sat on the floor.

The Fire Tooth Dog had never seen such a novel thing, its eyes filled with excitement.

If not for Qiao Sang holding it, it would have long since run over to the TV and pressed itself against the screen.

The TV was broadcasting the weather forecast.

A capable woman in a suit spoke in standard Mandarin, "According to the Weather Doll's detection, tomorrow in Pantai City, it will be sunny turning to cloudy, with temperatures between 30°C and 36°C. It is recommended to wear..."

The Fire Tooth Dog's eyes widened. Why was there a person inside?

Qiao Sang changed the channel.

In a beast-taming society, if you wanted high ratings, beast tamers and extraordinary creatures were the true keys to traffic.

Major TV stations clearly grasped this essence; no matter what channel you switched to, it was all reports related to beast tamers.

"Mr. Wang Dian'ao, is your romance with Ms. Luo Tang true?" The reporter's microphone was almost shoved into the young man's face.

"It's true," the young man admitted generously.

"You are both participating in the Yuhua Regional Tournament next. If you meet in the competition, will you go easy on her?" another reporter asked.

"No. Luo Tang is an excellent beast tamer. If I face her, I don't have a hundred percent certainty of winning," the young man replied with a smile.

"May I ask about your Armored Rhino..."

Qiao Sang changed the channel. The scene shifted, and a dark blue Thunder-Horned Rhino appeared before the Fire Tooth Dog.

It had a fierce gaze, its thick hind legs constantly plowing the ground, and purple electric arcs covered its body, emitting a sizzling sound as if it were about to pounce out of the TV in the next second.

The Fire Tooth Dog's body stiffened, and its fur slowly stood on end.

"The Thunder-Horned Rhino has held on under the Black Wind Wolf's tornado! It didn't back down! It looks like it's about to unleash a finishing move; I wonder what contestant Xu Zhou will do next!" the commentator said excitedly.

This was a replay. Various regions held different competitions every year, and the sports channel Qiao Sang was watching was dedicated to broadcasting Hanggang City's beast tamer competitions.

The camera cut to the all-black Black Wind Wolf.

The Black Wind Wolf's blue eyes held a murderous aura. It was bleeding, panting heavily, and because its fur was black, the wounds weren't obvious; only the few drops of blood on the ground showed it was injured.

The Fire Tooth Dog relaxed.

"After using the tornado, the Black Wind Wolf's stamina has clearly deteriorated..."

Before the commentator could finish, the screen returned to the Thunder-Horned Rhino.

The purple arcs on its body grew more intense, and when they spread about two meters around its body, it finally charged out.

"Bang!"

The TV emitted a violent explosion and was totaled...

The air seemed to freeze.

Qiao Sang looked at the Fire Tooth Dog mechanically, her gaze dull. She opened her mouth to say something, but before she could speak—

"Ya!" The Fire Tooth Dog turned and buried itself in Qiao Sang's arms.

The big guy inside that box had scared it to death!
