Chapter 45: Golden Gall and Grass Gall (Please keep reading and subscribing)

Wang An did not dare to distract himself by looking at Feng Chengmin; he only caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye.

At that moment, another roar of a black bear came drifting in.

It was clearly higher-pitched and more furious, as if it were about to explode at any second!

For Wang An, who was kneeling on one knee aiming, to say he wasn't afraid would be a lie. Just from the sound alone, he could tell this black bear was not something to be trifled with.

Suddenly, a massive black bear paw reached out from the hollow.

By visual estimation, the paw was slightly smaller than his own head, but certainly not larger!

With a single swipe of the paw, the four willow trunks were pushed aside.

They were indeed effective; one of them remained slanted across the opening, making the entrance smaller.

Willows were sturdy indeed; the bear swiped again, but the trunk did not break.

However, the bear immediately ignored the trunk. Using both paws to brace the opening, its entire head emerged from the hollow!

At this moment, he couldn't fire. He could kill the bear, but it would surely fall into the tree hollow and be impossible to pull out!

Then came another roar, this time deafening!

He wondered if the bear's previous howling inside the hollow had damaged his eardrums.

Immediately following, the head lunged violently upward out of the hollow, revealing its signature white patch of fur on the chest.

The entire movement was incredibly fast and agile.

As soon as its upper body was fully exposed, it lunged downward toward the base of the tree.

The thing was actually going to descend the tree headfirst!

Wang An didn't dare wait. *Bang! Bang!* He fired two shots in rapid succession!

A massive body came crashing down from the tree.

The impact wasn't that loud, likely due to the thick fur and heavy hide.

Before Wang An could fire a follow-up shot, another black bear head quickly poked out.

Perhaps because the first bear had emerged, leaving more space, this one was even faster!

Like a large black ball, it rolled out of the tree hollow without any discernible movement.

Before Wang An could react, the bear had already hit the ground.

Fast! It was simply too fast!

Wang An fired without much aim! With a *bang*, the sound had barely faded when the bear stood back up.

Wang An confirmed the shot had hit! However, because the bear stood up so quickly, he didn't know where the bullet had landed.

But it seemed as if the bullet hadn't even touched the bear at all.

Then came two more shots: *Bang! Bang!*

Feng Chengmin had somehow already taken his position on another path and opened fire.

Yet, the black bear continued to roar and lunged toward Wang An.

Wang An was truly panicking now.

Without much aim, he pointed his muzzle at the bear's head and fired two more shots: *Bang! Bang!*

Beside him, Feng Chengmin also fired two shots.

Finally, after being forced to take seven bullets, the black bear collapsed right in front of Wang An, only four or five meters away.

Seeing the bear sprawled before his eyes, Wang An could no longer hold himself up and slumped onto the ground.

Cold sweat instantly broke out across his body!

At that moment, Feng Chengmin ran over from not far away.

He ignored Wang An and instead fired a shot into the black bear's head.

Then he ran to the other black bear under the tree and fired a shot into its head as well.

Only then did he leisurely walk over to Wang An's side.

Patting Wang An on the shoulder, he praised him with a smile: "Awesome! You're actually pretty damn awesome now!"

Only then did Wang An regain his senses.

The distance of death had been far too close!

This black bear had truly terrified him.

Especially the sense of oppressive fear when it lunged—it felt as if the surrounding air had suddenly compressed, pinning Wang An to the spot!

His brain couldn't react in time; the shooting was merely a subconscious instinct!

After a while, Wang An finally stood up, though his legs were still weak.

The palpitations were intense!

It was even more intense than when he had traded gunfire with those three "livestock" before!

Man against man, and man against animal—they were completely different concepts, on entirely different levels!

When facing a person, you know that if a bullet hits them, they will either die or be maimed.

But when a bullet hits a black bear, it's as if the damn thing wasn't even hit!

It still lunges at you like nothing happened!

Its vitality was simply too tenacious!

This made Wang An think of the time he fought the "earth leopards." To humans, earth leopards were far more dangerous than black bears.

When an earth leopard runs, the speed of human arms and eyes working together can't even aim the gun at it!

He couldn't help but marvel at his own boldness that day, and also at his own ignorance; he had no idea how powerful his opponent was. He had taken down the earth leopard through sheer, reckless luck!

After patting Wang An twice, Feng Chengmin went to retrieve the bear gallbladders.

Many things must be processed by oneself; if one wants to earn this kind of money, one must be prepared to endure this kind of suffering.

Otherwise, one is neither a qualified mountain hunter nor a qualified human being!

Once a black bear is killed, the gallbladder must be removed as quickly as possible.

Because the primary reason for killing it is that gallbladder!

Furthermore, it is the same for any animal; after death, the bile diffuses, and after a while, very little is left.

Therefore, failing to extract it quickly is essentially throwing money away!

Wang An didn't know how to extract a gallbladder, so once he recovered, he watched closely to see how Feng Chengmin did it.

He knew exactly why he was here!

Feng Cheng민 had already finished eviscerating the large black bear under the tree.

He quickly located the gallbladder next to the liver, then carefully used a skinning knife to cut through the fat surrounding it. A golden gallbladder was extracted intact!

It really was a golden gallbladder. Could Feng Chengmin be right?

If a black bear is driven into a rage before death, does its gallbladder turn gold?

Feng Chengmin pulled a thin hemp rope from his waist and tied it around the opening of the gallbladder.

Then he had Wang An take a small cloth bag from his pocket, placed the gallbladder inside, and tied the bag shut with the hemp rope.

He paid no more attention to the bear whose gallbladder had been removed.

The two turned toward the other black bear and performed the same operation, but this one was a green gallbladder—a "grass gallbladder"!

Wang An felt that the smaller black bear that died in front of him had also been quite enraged before death!

It seemed even more furious than the large one, as if it wanted to tear him to pieces!

But why was this one a grass gallbladder?

He couldn't make sense of it!

Filled with questions, Wang An asked Feng Chengmin, "Uncle, why is this one a grass gallbladder?"

The sudden question caught Feng Chengmin off guard. He looked at the gallbladder he had just finished processing, then looked up at Wang An.

Pointing at the black bear's corpse, he said something that left Wang An speechless: "Then you'll have to ask it! How should I know!"

Having said that, he went back to fiddling with the small cloth bag.

Wang An: "……!"
