All-Attribute Martial Arts
Chapter 40: Eye of Spirit Vision
Xu Jie and the others were in a somewhat gloomy mood due to the matter of the Martial Arts College Entrance Examination.
Bai Wei quickly changed the subject. "Did you guys know? Zhou Baijun sent people to check Bao'an Mountain again today."
"Oh? And what did they find?" Wang Teng asked nonchalantly.
This situation was well within his expectations.
Smart people are always prone to curiosity, and Zhou Baijun was exactly the type who considered herself smart. Having failed to get an answer last night, she would certainly go to investigate again.
"I heard from Wu Yuan that they found traces of combat in a forest. Judging by the intensity, it looks like a fight between martial artists!" Bai Wei said.
"Martial artists!"
Xu Jie and Yu Hao were instantly startled.
"There were scorched marks at the scene, as well as some plants that had frozen to death. It seems they were damaged by Origin Power," Bai Wei added with a nod.
"To think it was actually martial artists. It's a good thing you didn't find that place last night, Brother Wang Teng, otherwise it would have been dangerous," Xu Jie said.
Wang Teng nodded.
"By the way, who is Wu Yuan?" Yu Hao suddenly asked Bai Wei in confusion.
"She's a girl I met at the villa yesterday. She's a total gossip, extremely well-informed, and quite a chatterbox. She messaged me as soon as she found out about this," Bai Wei couldn't help but laugh.
"Did she say anything else?" Wang Teng asked.
"She also said that Zhou Baijun had only just arrived, and the City Protection Bureau people showed up too, but they didn't seem to find anything. The two martial artists probably left right after their fight," Bai Wei said.
Wang Teng fell into thought. It seemed Bai Wei only knew the superficial details; she likely wasn't aware of much more.
After chatting for a few moments, the group split up at the school gate and headed home individually.
...
When Wang Teng returned home, he found several strangers in the house.
Wang Shengguo had already returned from his business trip and was conversing with them.
"The City Protection Bureau!"
"I didn't expect them to come knocking so soon!"
Wang Teng's heart stirred, but his expression remained unchanged as he walked into the villa's main hall. "Dad, you're back. Who are these people?"
"Mm."
Wang Shengguo nodded, his brow slightly furrowed. "They are staff from the City Protection Bureau. They came to ask you a few questions. You brat, you didn't cause any more trouble, did you?"
Wang Teng immediately protested, "How could I? Lately, I've been nothing but diligently practicing martial arts and attending classes, or just hanging out with friends. What trouble could I possibly cause!"
"Don't worry, Mr. Wang. We are just conducting a routine inquiry."
A young man waved his hand, then stood up and addressed Wang Teng. "Wang Teng, right?"
"That's right."
"I am Chai Yu, captain of the City Protection Bureau's Third Squad!"
"I came today to ask you about some things that happened at Bao'an Mountain last night," the young man said.
"Oh, so it's about that. No problem, go ahead and ask. I'll tell you everything I know," Wang Teng said, looking as if he had just realized the reason for their visit.
Chai Yu proceeded to ask several questions, and Wang Teng answered them one by one according to his prepared script. His answers were airtight, leaving them with no room to find any discrepancies.
Particularly regarding the issue of his poor sense of direction, Wang Shengguo added jokingly from the side, "Don't laugh at him, but this kid hasn't been able to recognize directions since he was little. Luckily we have navigation now, otherwise I'd be terrified he'd suddenly get lost one of these days."
"Alright, thank you for your cooperation. Sorry for the intrusion today."
Having gained nothing, Chai Yu stood up to take his leave.
Once the City Protection Bureau personnel had left, Wang Shengguo pointed a finger mockingly at Wang Teng's forehead.
Wang Teng chuckled. "Dad, you cooperated quite well!"
"Stop being cheeky!" Wang Shengguo glared at him. "Behave yourself from now on. Don't go looking for trouble again."
Wang Teng didn't explain what had happened, and Wang Shengguo, having issued his warning, did not press further.
Li Xiumei set the food on the table and called the father and son to dinner.
...
Sitting in the car, a staff member driving asked Chai Yu, "Brother Chai, how much of what that kid said do you think was true and how much was fake?"
"Hard to say!"
Chai Yu frowned. "Based on the lab results from the scene, the martial artists involved in the fight should be dead. There must have been a third party present at the scene."
"And according to Li Chengrong's testimony, this Wang Teng's strength isn't weak; he's roughly at the level of an advanced martial apprentice."
"But for an advanced martial apprentice to kill two martial artists... that's simply impossible!"
"So, he probably wasn't directly involved. At most, he witnessed the fight and was too hesitant to tell the truth."
The driver speculated, "Is it possible the two martial artists killed each other, and he just happened to reap the benefits?"
"You've read too many novels. If something that good actually happened, why hasn't it happened to me?" Chai Yu rolled his eyes.
"Hehe, Brother Chai, you don't know. This kind of plot is very popular in novels right now. It's quite satisfying to read!" the staff member chuckled.
"Just drive your car."
Chai Yu cursed him jokingly, but couldn't help but sigh.
"Sigh. Both Li Chengrong and this Wang Teng are advanced martial apprentices with the potential to become martial artists. Neither the Li nor the Wang families are ordinary households; we can't be too heavy-handed."
"Furthermore, all the belongings of the two martial artists are gone, and their phones are missing. We have no way of knowing their identities, so there's nowhere to even begin an investigation. This matter will likely become a cold case."
"True. Ever since we connected with the Otherworld, the disappearance and death of martial artists have become difficult to track," the staff member remarked with a sigh.
...
After dinner, taking advantage of his parents' lack of attention, Wang Teng took the backpack containing the eggs back to his bedroom.
He took the eggs out, placed them on the incubator, and switched it on, letting it begin the slow process of incubation.
He lay on the bed with his hands behind his head.
After a moment of staring blankly, he suddenly leaped from the bed and grabbed a mirror.
Facing the mirror, he activated his [Spiritual Vision] talent with his eyes. He saw what looked like a thin black film covering his pupils...
"This looks like I'm wearing colored contact lenses."
"Wait... there's a faint red light deeper inside!"
"My god, why does it feel a bit like a crow's eye!!"
Wang Teng observed closely and felt a sudden sense of gloom. *It couldn't have actually turned into a crow's eye, could it?*
"Sigh, I wonder what exactly this [Spiritual Vision] talent is capable of?"
Wang Teng sighed. As his gaze swept across the room, he suddenly paused when he saw the eggs in the incubator.
"This is..."
With the [Spiritual Vision] talent active, the eggs appeared fiery red, looking like clusters of burning flames.
"Fire-type Origin Power!"
"Could this be the function of [Spiritual Vision]? To see Origin Power?"
Wang Teng's imagination ran wild as he speculated.
"That giant crow was able to find the East Sea and eventually lock onto me; perhaps it relied on this kind of talent."
"This talent comes from the giant crow. Compared to it, mine is likely just a weakened version. It will need to be developed further."
"Still, this talent is quite good. Through these eyes, I can see Origin Power and thus judge the strength of other martial artists!" Wang Teng mused.
Driven by curiosity, he studied it for a long while until his eyes felt sore and his head felt heavy, at which point he was forced to deactivate the [Spiritual Vision] talent.
"What's happening? My head is a bit dizzy!"
"Could it be..."
Surprised, Wang Teng summoned his attribute panel. He saw that next to the [Spirit] column, the words "(Excessive Consumption)" had appeared.
"The [Spiritual Vision] talent actually consumes Spirit!"
"It seems I can't use it recklessly."
After resting for a while, the dizziness in his head gradually faded.
"For now, I only know that [Spiritual Vision] can see Origin Power. I wonder if there are other abilities?"
Wang Teng pondered this and decided to pay closer attention in the future. This [Spiritual Vision] talent had great potential and required focused attention.
