Chapter 52: I'll Swat a Few Flies
Wang Teng followed Lin Chuhan all the way, only to find that she had simply returned home.
Watching her enter her house from a distance, he was about to leave when he suddenly saw a group of people approaching.
Leading them was a bald man wearing a black suit.
He was followed by five or six youths who looked like thugs.
Wang Teng immediately stopped in his tracks, lit a cigarette, and stood by the roadside to smoke.
"What are you looking at? You little shit!" The bald man in the black suit saw Wang Teng staring blankly at them and cursed viciously.
Wang Teng said nothing and turned his head away.
The bald man didn't press the issue; he just grumbled as he walked into Lin Chuhan's house.
Lin Chuhan's home was a three-story residential building that looked quite old. The first floor served as a storefront, operating as a small grocery shop.
The bald man walked into the grocery shop and casually grabbed a bottle of cola, gulping down a large swig.
A middle-aged woman in the shop, presumably Lin Chuhan's mother, stood to the side with a terrified expression, not daring to say a word.
After letting out an air burp, the bald man turned to the middle-aged woman and said, "Well? Is the money ready?"
"Boss, my husband has already gone to borrow money from relatives and friends. Please give us a few more days of grace," the middle-aged woman pleaded.
"A few more days? I've already given you three damn days. Is that not enough? Huh?"
The bald man's eyes bulged as he kicked over a nearby box of candy. Instantly, the candy flew everywhere, scattering across the floor.
"I think you guys just don't want to pay us back, don't you?"
"Boss, we really aren't refusing to pay, we just haven't gathered enough yet. Please, just give us two or three more days. I beg you!" The middle-aged woman shrank to the side, her eyes red with tears.
"Cut the nonsense. If you don't have the money today, I'm smashing this shop!" The bald man showed no intention of relenting.
"This... you can't do that, you can't! Our whole family relies on this grocery shop to live. My daughter still has to take her college entrance exams. If you smash the shop, how are we supposed to survive!" The middle-aged woman wept in desperation.
"Who gives a damn how you survive! It looks like you can't pay today. Do you think I'm running a charity? Smash it!"
The bald man sat down heavily in a chair and waved his hand grandly. His subordinates prepared to start smashing the shop.
"Wait!"
A voice called out from upstairs.
Lin Chuhan ran down the stairs, thumping loudly. She had just arrived home and gone to the restroom; as soon as she came out, she heard the commotion downstairs and rushed down, only to find that these people had come knocking again.
"Oh!" The bald man's eyes lit up the moment he saw Lin Chuhan.
"Why did you come down?"
The middle-aged woman grew anxious immediately. She hurriedly shielded Lin Chuhan behind her and said to the bald man, "Boss, my daughter is still young. This has nothing to do with her. Don't take it out on her."
"She doesn't look young to me!" The bald man stood up, his gaze falling on Lin Chuhan with ill intent.
Lin Chuhan did not back down. She stepped out from behind her mother and said, "Our family owes you 150,000, right? I'll pay you right now. Once you take the money, get out of my house immediately."
"Haha, quite the big mouth. Do you even have 150,000?" The bald man laughed contemptuously.
"You girl, where would we get that much money?" Lin Chuhan's mother frowned, thinking her daughter was being reckless, and tried to pull her back.
Lin Chuhan's mother knew the bald man's gaze all too well. These people were not to be trifled with; her daughter was just a high school student and could never win against them.
Lin Chuhan remained unmoved. "Bring out the IOU and give it to us. I'll transfer the money to you right now."
*Could this little girl actually have gotten the money? She's so beautiful, maybe someone really did pay for her,* the bald man muttered to himself.
Looking at Lin Chuhan's beautiful, youthful face, his heart burned with desire. An idea immediately struck him, and he sneered.
"Fine. As long as you pay the money, we'll leave immediately. However, that 150,000 was three days ago. Now that three days have passed, let me calculate... you owe me... 200,000!"
"How about it, little sister? Do you have 200,000?"
"200,000! It's only been three days, how could it jump to 200,000!!" Lin Chuhan's mother turned pale, whether from anger or fear.
"You're shameless!" Lin Chuhan trembled with rage.
Originally, their family had only borrowed 100,000. Later, they were told the interest for three months would be 50,000. They couldn't afford to fight them, so they had no choice but to accept their fate and borrow money from everywhere to make up the amount.
But over the years, they had already borrowed from every relative and friend they could, and everyone knew the Lin family's situation.
Lin Chuhan's father was paralyzed in bed and unable to work, and her sister had a strange illness. Only her mother, running the grocery shop, supported the family.
Lending money to them was like pouring it into a bottomless pit; small amounts might be repaid, but no one dared to lend larger sums.
Previously, Lin Chuhan had finally swallowed her pride to borrow 150,000 from Wang Teng, thinking it would finally settle this mess.
She never expected them to be so shameless as to demand another 50,000 just because three days had passed!
"Little sister, don't talk nonsense. How can an upright person like me be called shameless!" the bald man said nonchalantly.
"This is illegal. I can sue you," Lin Chuhan said through gritted teeth.
"Then go ahead and sue. I won't stop you. But whether your family can keep this shop open in the future is another matter," the bald man sneered.
"You!" Lin Chuhan pointed at him, too angry to speak.
"So, you're saying you can't pay. That's a problem... How about this? I'm also looking for a girlfriend. If you're willing to be my woman, I might even waive the debt entirely," the bald man chuckled lewdly.
"Impossible! Don't even think about it! Even if our shop goes under, don't you dare touch a single hair on my daughter's head!" Lin's mother acted like a cornered tigress, shielding Lin Chuhan and glaring at the bald man.
Lin Chuhan's face was grim, and a hint of panic flickered in her eyes. She hadn't expected him to actually dare to make such a move; she had underestimated the wickedness of human nature.
"Then you'll have to blame me for being impolite..."
The bald man let out a sinister grin, but before he could finish his sentence, a voice drifted in from behind.
"How exactly do you plan to be impolite?"
The bald man turned around. "Kid, it's you!"
"Wang Teng!" Lin Chuhan also saw the newcomer, and for some reason, she felt as if she had found a pillar of support.
"Heh, so you do know me." The bald man narrowed his eyes, sizing Wang Teng up. "What, trying to play the hero to save the beauty?"
"A hero saving a beauty? Not quite!" Wang Teng thought for a moment and replied.
"Hahaha! Look at how cowardly he is!" The bald man burst into laughter.
His lackeys followed suit, mocking and jeering.
"I'm just here to swat a few flies," Wang Teng said indifferently.
The bald man's expression instantly turned incredibly ugly. He had actually been looked down upon; the boy's calm demeanor stung him deeply.
"You're looking for death!" he said, enunciating every word.
