Chapter 3: The Wrong Cat Was Picked Up
The masked man calmly walked past Jiang Yuan and the short-haired girl, pulling a dagger that glinted with a cold light from his hoodie pocket.
Jiang Yuan saw it.
He was warning her.
Jiang Yuan frowned.
"Is something wrong?" Qiaoqiao asked uneasily.
Jiang Yuan turned back and saw the masked man standing next to her car, fiddling with the dagger.
She pursed her lips and shook her head: "It's nothing."
Qiaoqiao let out an "ah."
Little K was extremely distressed. "Why didn't you save Qiaoqiao!"
Jiang Yuan met its disappointed puppy eyes, crouched down to rub its head, and whispered: "Protect Qiaoqiao well."
The sound of high heels clicking against the ground echoed through the quiet night.
Jiang Yuan left. A flash of contempt and triumph crossed the masked man's eyes as he continued to follow behind Qiaoqiao.
"Save Qiaoqiao!" Little K's barking grew increasingly frantic. "Qiaoqiao is in danger!"
About ten minutes later, Little K led its owner to the bottom of her apartment building.
It watched the masked man warily.
Qiaoqiao asked with a smile: "Why did you stop, Little K? Are you tired?"
The masked man crouched down in front of Little K and tapped its dog face with the dagger.
Little K was a strictly trained guide dog; it would not attack people proactively, nor would it fight back if attacked, choosing only to endure silently.
When Jiang Yuan arrived, she saw the masked man gesturing with the sharp dagger in front of Little K and scolded coldly: "Don't touch it."
Qiaoqiao gripped the leash tightly, a look of panic appearing on her face.
What was happening?
"You dare to come back!" The masked man’s forehead veins bulged, his expression ferocious. "I'll finish you off first! Remember not to be a busybody in your next life!"
He lunged at Jiang Yuan with the dagger, seemingly intent on stabbing her to death.
Jiang Yuan raised her voice: "Bite him."
As the words fell, several agile canine shadows darted out. Several black, white, and yellow dogs latched onto the masked man's arms and legs respectively.
These were the helpers Jiang Yuan had called, with a reward of ten cans of meat.
"Fuck, where did these mad dogs come from!" The masked man cursed in pain. "Get off me!"
Qiaoqiao didn't know what was happening and was trembling all over, vaguely hearing the sound of police sirens.
Little K said excitedly: "Great, Qiaoqiao is saved!"
When the police arrived at the scene and saw five dogs working together to attack the masked man, they were filled with disbelief.
What surprised them even more was that when the young woman with long, curly black hair said "Stop," all five dogs let go at the same time and trotted over to her, wagging their tails.
Jiang Yuan raised an eyebrow: "Don't worry, the canned meat I promised you will definitely be delivered."
The police stepped forward to subdue the masked man, their gazes shifting between the short-haired girl and Jiang Yuan before landing on the latter. "Did you call the police?"
Jiang Yuan nodded: "Yes."
The officer looked at the five dogs beside her. "Are these your dogs?"
"No," Jiang Yuan explained. "I called them from the side of the road to help."
The police: "..."
It sounded absurd, but they couldn't forget the scene they had just witnessed.
The masked man was taken to the police station, while Jiang Yuan and Qiaoqiao went together to give their statements.
Upon verification, it was found that the masked man had repeatedly stalked lone women, threatened them with a knife, and committed acts of molestation and rape.
Learning that she had almost been a victim, Qiaoqiao was overcome with lingering fear and thanked Jiang Yuan with a choked voice: "Thank you, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I... I don't even dare to imagine what the consequences would have been..."
"It was Little K that saved you," Jiang Yuan said softly. "It kept barking to warn you."
Qiaoqiao said she would definitely be careful in the future and wanted to pay a reward to express her gratitude.
Jiang Yuan politely declined. As she was preparing to leave, she was stopped by a middle-aged police officer. "Miss Jiang, please wait."
Seeing her confused expression, Officer Lin quickly explained: "I'm just very curious. I wanted to know how Miss Jiang managed to get those dogs to help?"
"Perhaps it's because I have a strong affinity with animals, so they agreed to help." Jiang Yuan couldn't exactly say she had been rewarded with an Animal Dictionary by a system.
Officer Lin: "..."
Jiang Yuan: "Is there anything else?"
Officer Lin shook his head: "No, nothing."
"Then goodbye."
Jiang Yuan returned to her red BMW.
[System 009: Congratulations to Miss Jiang for completing the hidden mission: girls help girls. Reward: 50 points!]
Jiang Yuan asked while driving: "What can I do with points?"
[System 009: Points can be used to exchange for items in the mall.]
Jiang Yuan was driving, so she didn't look into it.
When she got home, her parents were already asleep. Feeling exhausted, she took a shower and went to rest.
The next day, Jiang Yuan was woken up by her phone ringing.
It was a call from Xie Yuchen.
All the money Jiang Yuan had swindled from Fu Jinxing had been spent on him.
However, in her dreams, when she was down and out, Xie Yuchen hadn't helped her at all.
Jiang Yuan answered the phone, and the first thing he did was ask for money: "Jiang Yuan, transfer twenty thousand yuan to me."
"Am I your mother?" she asked.
Xie Yuchen: "What did you say?"
"Am I your mother?" Jiang Yuan asked again.
"Are you sick? How could you possibly be my mother!"
"If I'm not your mother, what face do you have to ask me for money?"
Xie Yuchen was extremely annoyed: "Are you actually sick? What's wrong with me taking money from you?"
"Get lost." Jiang Yuan didn't want to waste words with him and hung up the phone directly.
She pulled the quilt over her head, intending to go back to sleep, but pulled it off the next second.
Xie Yuchen had bought quite a few luxury items with the money she had swindled; she had to go see what could be sold.
She couldn't let this bastard get off easy.
Jiang Yuan got up, washed up, ate some breakfast her mother had left, and went out.
She drove to the underground garage of Xie Yuchen's apartment complex. While taking the elevator up, she encountered two elderly women. One of them was carrying a cat carrier with a blue cat inside.
"What is wrong with Nini? The doctor said she's physically fine, but she hasn't wanted to pay any attention to me lately," the old woman said sadly.
Jiang Yuan took a few extra looks at the blue cat, and the next second, she heard it complaining.
"The cat doesn't even know you, why should it pay attention to you! The cat isn't your Nini! The cat's name is Princess!"
"I already said I didn't want a bath, but that idiot still insisted on taking the cat, and even brought the wrong cat home. It's enough to make a cat die of anger!"
Jiang Yuan pursed her lips and said softly: "Is it possible that this isn't your Nini?"
Princess immediately became excited: "Ahhh, you can understand cat-speak! Tell her to send the cat home quickly!"
The old woman looked at Jiang Yuan in surprise: "How is that possible?"
Princess: "So stupid, how is it not possible!"
Jiang Yuan glanced at the grumpy blue cat. "Try to recall carefully; perhaps you picked up the wrong one somewhere."
With that, the elevator stopped at the 19th floor where she needed to go.
Jiang Yuan stepped out of the elevator, only to run into someone she never wanted to see even in her dreams right at Xie Yuchen's door—Fu Jinxing.
Her first reaction was to turn around and leave.
The man's gentle voice came from behind her: "Jiang Yuan."
Jiang Yuan's footsteps faltered. She closed her eyes, her heart pounding violently in her throat.
She turned around and squeezed out a smile that looked worse than crying: "W-what a coincidence."
