Chapter 12: I Am Here to Treat the Patient
Chapter 12: I Am Here to Treat Patients
As it turned out, Qin Yike was indeed the only person in the family with a functioning brain.
When Qin Jingming and Gao Mingyu dragged her to a high-end teahouse, Qin Yike knew immediately that things were far more complicated than the two of them were letting on.
Was it really necessary to come to such an expensive place just to find her a job? If Qin Jingming were looking for work for his own children, she might believe it; but for him to come to a high-class establishment like this to pull strings for her was simply impossible!
Despite the fact that Qin Jingming had made a fair amount of money in recent years, he was an incredibly stingy man; he wouldn't be this generous without a reason.
"This..." Qin Yike pointed at the surroundings of the teahouse, looking utterly bewildered.
Gao Mingyu quickly interjected, "Yike, our county might be a bit small, but we aren't poor. There are many talented people hidden in this county. When asking someone for a favor, you can't exactly go to a shabby place, can you? Don't worry, the owner of this teahouse is on good terms with your uncle. It's classy and safe."
"Oh!" Qin Yike nodded and fell silent.
Qin Jingming had reserved a private room in advance. He instructed Gao Mingyu to take Qin Yike to wait in the room while he waited outside. He checked his watch frequently, a sign of his extreme anxiety; it seemed the person he was waiting for was a very important figure.
Qin Yike knew exactly what was happening. This couple was definitely hiding something from her. Finding her a job was a pretext; they actually wanted to use her. She feigned ignorance and followed Gao Mingyu into the private room quite obediently, determined to see exactly what the Qin couple was up to.
"Yike, are you hungry?"
Qin Yike shook her head.
"Then we'll go eat once things proceed smoothly."
Qin Yike began to probe for information discreetly. "Auntie, how many people did Uncle invite? The prices here must be quite expensive, right?"
Gao Mingyu thought to herself that Qin Yike was naive, but on the surface, she praised her for being sensible. "You don't need to worry about money! Well, your uncle can't meet too many people at once. Pulling strings is something that must be handled privately, so we're doing this quietly. He won't invite too many people, so don't worry, it won't cost much."
In other words, this was a setup orchestrated by Qin Jingming. The person he was inviting was someone of significant status, though the exact purpose remained unclear.
Arranging a job for her? That was likely just a smokescreen.
Just as she was thinking this, she saw Qin Jingming leading two people into the room.
Gao Mingyu quickly pulled Qin Yike's arm, and the two of them stood up to welcome the VIPs.
The middle-aged man walking in front was about fifty years old. He possessed almost all the traits of a successful middle-aged man: a beer belly, slight balding, and a designer watch that likely cost at least six figures!
Following behind him was a young man in his twenties. He was thin and also dressed in designer brands, carrying a strange scent of cologne. However, the man's complexion was poor, and his gait was unsteady; one look was enough to tell he had exhausted his vitality through excessive drinking and debauchery.
*At such a young age, he's already gone astray. Relying on his family's wealth, he's probably spent plenty of time chasing women.*
"Let me introduce you. This is Mr. Hong Qi, a famous private entrepreneur in our county, and this is his son, Hong Dexi."
Gao Mingyu's face lit up like a blooming chrysanthemum. "Hello, Mr. Hong. I am Qin Jingming's wife, a primary school teacher. Oh, and this is our niece, Qin Yike, a top student from Beijing Medical University. Yike, hurry and say hello to Mr. Hong and Young Master Hong."
*Holy crap!*
Even a fool would have realized it by now. This wasn't a job interview; this was a blind date! Qin Jingming wanted to cling to Hong Qi's coattails, but since he couldn't bear to sacrifice his own daughter, he was offering her up instead!
No wonder he was being so kind this time, even going so far as to have the old man call them and talk about arranging a job. *Pah!*
"Hello," Qin Yike said coldly, sitting back down in her chair.
Since she had the time, she might as well see just how shameless Qin Jingming could be. If he wanted to scheme against her, he would have to see if they actually had the ability to pull it off!
The atmosphere was slightly awkward, but Hong Qi was very satisfied with Qin Yike. He recognized her instantly; this young girl was the one from the surveillance footage who had called emergency services to save his father. Seeing his son's covetous gaze, he felt even more certain.
"Sit, everyone, sit," Hong Qi said with a kind demeanor, gesturing for everyone to sit and talk.
*She's much prettier in person than on the surveillance footage.*
"Miss Qin graduated from Beijing Medical University? That's a prestigious university," Hong Dexi asked impatiently as soon as they sat down.
Seeing this, both Qin Jingming and Gao Mingyu were overjoyed. It seemed the eldest son of the Hong family had taken a liking to Qin Yike.
"Yes. And you? Which university did you attend?"
Hong Dexi replied nonchalantly, "Hey, I never went to university! To be honest, I've been learning business from my dad since I was a kid. I've made plenty of money, but as for an education... I don't have one! That stuff is useless to me."
Qin Yike let out a scoff, making no effort to hide the contempt in her eyes.
Hong Dexi didn't care about her disdain at all. He only thought that the way Qin Yike smiled was beautiful, as if it made everything around her lose its color. He hadn't seen such a beautiful, stunning woman in a long time. From the moment he first saw her, his body had felt restless, and seeing her radiant smile now made his heart race even more.
"Miss Qin, I am very satisfied with you. You are beautiful, highly educated, and intelligent. I think we should just start dating directly. Ideally, we should settle the marriage within a month."
Qin Jingming was ecstatic. He hadn't expected this to actually work! Young Master Hong was a seasoned playboy; what kind of celestial beauties had he not seen? For him to actually agree to a marriage was something he had never even dreamed of.
Gao Mingyu lost her composure even more, grabbing Qin Yike's arm and saying excitedly, "Yike, did you hear that? Young Master Hong wants to marry you! Hurry up and agree!" Once this was settled, their family's problems would be solved.
Qin Yike directly shook off Gao Mingyu's hand. "Is there some misunderstanding here? Dating, marriage... I don't understand what you're talking about."
Gao Mingyu froze, then immediately said, "Yike, you can't throw a tantrum! It's your good fortune that Young Master Hong has taken an interest in you. Once you are married, your job will become his responsibility. We're family, so there's no need to be formal! By then, forget about just getting into the county hospital—getting into the city hospital will be a breeze."
Qin Yike sneered. "From the way you're talking, Auntie, it sounds like this Young Master Hong is quite the prize!"
"Of course! His father is the richest man in our county. If you marry into such a family, you can just sit back and enjoy a life of luxury!"
"With such a good marriage, why didn't you save it for Qin Chuxi?"
Gao Mingyu glared, thinking to herself that such a thing was out of the question!
Her precious daughter, Chuxi, was meant to be among the elite! With her daughter's looks and talent, she was destined to marry into true wealth and become a socialite. How could a nouveau riche family like the Hongs be worthy of her daughter?
Of course, she could only keep those thoughts to herself; she couldn't utter a single word of it.
Before Gao Mingyu could respond, Qin Yike turned to Hong Qi and said, "Mr. Hong, I think there has been a misunderstanding. I am not here for a blind date."
She gave a slight smile and said with great solemnity, "I am here to treat patients!"
