Chapter 41

After bursting out of the Nightshade Bunker, Lynn did not linger for a moment, putting every ounce of his strength into fleeing toward the distance.

Every step he took was accompanied by heavy gasps. A lingering shadow of danger seemed to follow close behind, preventing him from lowering his guard.

It wasn't until Lynn felt breathless and his physical strength was nearly exhausted that he finally slowed his pace and stopped to rest for a while.

Fortunately, he had already moved out of the direct line of sight of the Nightshade Bunker. Looking back, the view was open, and even the silhouette of the black castle was no longer visible.

"I've escaped, but I can't let my guard down..."

Lynn's heart sank. He understood that although he had temporarily shaken off his pursuers, he was still within the sphere of influence of the Nightshade Bunker, and his sense of security remained slim.

The surrounding silence and emptiness did not represent peace; he was still in potential danger.

Throughout his flight, Lynn had carefully avoided the Great Emerald Island Forest.

He had previously noticed that the Black Dragon Witch seemed to be heading toward the forest.

If the Black Dragon Witch was indeed hiding within, then the allied forces of the Nightshade Bunker and the Painful Cult would undoubtedly make that area a primary focus of their attention.

To head there recklessly now would be nothing less than walking into a trap.

Therefore, Lynn chose to travel in a direction away from the Great Emerald Island Forest.

As the night deepened, his fatigue grew heavier. He finally stopped in a concealed location, finding a sheltered spot suitable for resting.

However, still being in a dangerous area, he did not dare close his eyes to sleep; instead, he relied on meditation to recover his strength.

After meditating for nearly two hours, Lynn's condition gradually began to improve.

While not fully recovered, it was enough to allow him to continue moving forward.

"What happened to Colin, Sonia, and the others..."

Lynn sighed inwardly. Although he was worried, there was nothing he could do now except pray that they could escape danger alive.

"I have to find a way back to the Forge..."

Lynn made his decision.

He did not intend to completely sever ties with the Forge; he still held a contract with them and needed to report everything that had happened on the battlefield to his superiors.

However, the Forge was a considerable distance from both the Nightshade Bunker and the Painful Cult.

He had entered through the Forge's teleportation array, but those arrays were all located within the Great Emerald Island Forest, a place he clearly could not return to.

"I'll have to walk back on foot... Tomorrow, I must find the nearest mortal city..."

Lynn pinched the bridge of his nose, his expression tinged with bitterness.

He realized that he not only had to evade the pursuers from the Nightshade Bunker and the Painful Cult but also had to find a way to deliver news back to the Forge.

If only he could use carrier pigeons, but unfortunately, the Forge was located in a transcendent realm, and ordinary pigeons could not fly in.

Lynn traveled day and night, pushing himself through the darkness, sustained almost entirely by sheer willpower.

When tired, he would meditate briefly to recover a bit of strength, and then continue his journey.

After a full day and night of trekking, he finally saw signs of human habitation.

It was a small village. From a distance, wisps of cooking smoke rose from the rooftops, clearly indicating that people lived and resided there.

Lynn did not enter rashly. Instead, he carefully stole a set of ordinary peasant clothes and tucked his conspicuous wizard robes into a spatial item.

At this moment, he no longer looked like a reclusive wizard apprentice, but more like an ordinary country youth.

Of course, having lived in the Forge for half a year, his nutrition had improved, giving him a tall and sturdy build rather than his former thin, stick-like frame.

From a distance, he looked like a handsome young man from the countryside.

However, to avoid drawing attention, Lynn did not enter the village but instead detoured to continue along the main road.

After traveling for some distance, he finally saw a low-walled city.

A few figures were seen entering and exiting the city gates. Lynn silently followed the flow of people toward the gate. Fortunately, no one was collecting entry fees, and he slipped in smoothly.

Although the city was not large, the streets were bustling with people coming and going.

Most people dressed simply, and the roadside shops were filled with a variety of goods, presenting a typical medieval small-town atmosphere.

Despite being penniless, Lynn felt no anxiety. For a Level 2 wizard apprentice, earning a little money in the mortal world was incredibly easy.

Avoiding any major commotion, Lynn chose a spot near a tavern. Using Daze, he silently knocked out a few thugs and searched them for some money.

It was not uncommon in cities for vagrants or thugs to spend the night around taverns.

Having resolved his immediate crisis, Lynn found an inn and walked in with heavy, tired steps.

He completely ignored the suggestive glances from the inn girl and walked straight to his room.

After locking the doors and windows, he collapsed onto the bed and fell into a deep sleep without a moment's hesitation.

It took a full day and night before Lynn opened his bleary eyes, having recovered from his extreme exhaustion.

After washing up, he sat on the bed with two spatial items placed before him

One was his own, filled with magic potions, and the other was snatched from the Level 3 apprentice who had ties to White.

"I still don't even know that guy's name..."

Lynn opened the apprentice's spatial item.

The spatial items from the Forge were all standard designs, so Lynn opened it easily and began inspecting the contents.

The item contained various magical objects of different sizes.

For instance, the shield used by the apprentice, which could reflect spells, seemed quite special; while smaller items like daggers and shackles appeared more common.

"I'm not from the Alchemy Department, so my research into magical items isn't deep. I'll have to figure out the functions of these items slowly..."

Lynn muttered to himself, turning his gaze to the other spatial item. The magic potions inside were very familiar to him.

Compared to the magical items, his knowledge of these potions was quite extensive.

Looking at the densely packed potion bottles in the spatial item, he couldn't help but feel moved, lightly licking his lips.

"If it weren't for the Forge contract weighing on me, I'd really want to use all these potions before continuing my journey..."

He took a glass bottle from the spatial item. Inside was a colorless liquid, crystal clear, looking like a bottle of pure water.

Upon careful observation, Lynn confirmed it was the potion known as "Daylight's Tears."

It could significantly increase the cultivation speed of a Level 2 wizard apprentice. In the Forge, a single bottle of this potion would be quite valuable, considered one of the precious resources.

However, Lynn was in no hurry to consume it.

After all, this bottle of potion had been taken from the Nightshade Bunker's potion storage; he had to ensure there were no special seals or restrictions on it.

Not every potion was as simple as it appeared on the surface.

Lynn carefully inspected the state of the potion to ensure there were no abnormalities or applied restrictions.

After repeated confirmation that everything was normal, he finally felt at ease, brought the mouth of the bottle to his lips, and drank it gently.
