Rebirth in the Apocalypse: Starting with a 30 Million Jackpot

Chapter 9: Don't Slash, Stab!

Xiao Hang seemed to have snapped out of the scene that had just unfolded, asking in surprise, "Big brother, when did you grab that? I didn't even see it."

Li Yu didn't respond to Li Hang's question. Seeming to hear something, he held up a finger to signal Xiao Hang to be quiet.

The surroundings fell silent in an instant.

Listening closely, the sound of sirens echoed continuously, occasionally punctuated by screams. Those screams sounded as if they had witnessed something inconceivable, shrill and hoarse.

The group exchanged glances and, with a tacit understanding, got into the car.

The SUV started up quickly, and Li Yu drove them toward the outskirts of the city.

Passing the supermarket they had just left, Li Yu saw from a distance that two police officers were still wandering there. As the high beams hit them, they revealed two faces with dull expressions, covered in black spots.

Li Yu’s eyes narrowed slightly. He slammed on the brakes, turned his head, and said to Xiao Lue in the passenger seat, "Stay in the car, look after your mother, and don't get out."

There was no time to explain further before he stepped out. Xiao Lue was just starting college, an 18-year-old youth, full of spirit, but it was only natural for him to be flustered in the face of such a sudden change.

Xiao Lue rolled down the window, a bit scared, and asked, "Cousin, what are you doing?"

Seeing him roll down the window, Li Yu felt a surge of irritation. After a deep breath, he suppressed his impatience, turned back, and said to Xiao Lue, "Have you seen zombies in movies? Well, a zombie outbreak is happening now. You are a man now. Do you understand?"

Xiao Lue looked at the two zombies wandering ahead and saw those terrifying faces. His heart went numb, but after hearing Li Yu’s words, he mustered his courage and nodded firmly.

"Don't open the window again. Don't open the door unless I give the order. Understand?"

Looking at Li Yu, whose demeanor was completely different from his usual self, Xiao Lue nodded and rolled the window back up.

Li Hang, who was following behind, saw Li Yu stop and pulled over as well.

Just as he was about to get out, Li Yu saw him and hurriedly said, "Xiao Hang, don't get out."

Li Hang grabbed a knife from the passenger seat and ignored the warning, stepping out of the car anyway.

"Xiao Hang, what are you doing?!" No sooner had the words left his mouth than he saw the two police officers turned zombies slowly approaching them. One was even right behind Li Hang.

"Cousin Hang, watch out behind you!" Xiao Lue shouted from inside the car.

Li Yu moved like a cheetah, sprinting over at high speed.

Just as Li Hang turned around, he saw a zombie in a police uniform behind him, less than a meter away.

*Crack.*

Li Yu slashed sideways with his knife, and blood splattered.

*Thud!*

The zombie's head was severed and fell heavily to the ground!

Li Hang had witnessed his big brother chop off a human head—or rather, a zombie's head—at close range, and he was stunned.

*Ah!*

Li Hang let out a scream! Another zombie nearby was closing in, less than five meters away.

*Smack!*

Li Yu slapped Li Hang, snapping him out of his daze.

Without paying any more attention to Li Hang, he rushed toward the zombie and delivered another slash, sending another head flying.

He quickly searched the zombie's police uniform and pulled out a gun with three bullets left.

He searched further and actually found three more magazines!

One had to know that ordinary police officers were only issued 5–7 rounds of ammunition. It seemed the authorities knew the severity of the situation and had equipped the officers with more.

Li Yu searched the other zombie's uniform and found an identical gun and three more magazines!

In the apocalypse, the most sought-after items were food, weapons, and medicine!

He had stockpiled plenty of food and medicine two months ago—rice, flour, wheat, and other staples, even snacks with long shelf lives.

He had also hoarded various medicines: antibiotics, cold medicine, anti-inflammatories, stomach medicine, and more.

He had prepared weapons too, but there was nowhere to buy firearms.

Now that there was an opportunity to obtain them, he certainly had to seize it.

He remembered that when they first arrived, there should have been three police zombies, but there were only two in front of him now.

He had to keep looking! Opportunity knocks but once.

He glanced at Li Hang, who had been slapped and was looking at him with a grievance-filled expression, seemingly having regained his senses.

He checked Li Hang from head to toe and, seeing no signs of zombie bites, felt relieved.

But a surge of anger rose up, and he said, "I told you not to get out, why the hell did you come out?"

Li Hang said aggrievedly, "I wanted to help you."

Looking at this younger brother who had been a troublemaker since childhood—though occasionally disobedient, he had gotten out of the car to help him! This was the apocalypse; everyone was thinking only of saving their own lives, let alone helping others.

In his previous life before he was reborn, Li Yu had even seen scum who pushed their own wives toward zombies just to save themselves.

A wave of warmth flooded his heart.

His tone softened instantly as he said, "Fine, it's time for you to get some training." He thought that although his brother had been bold since childhood, anyone would be stunned when facing zombies for the first time; it was only natural for him to freeze up just now.

Li Yu hadn't fared any better the first time he saw a zombie in his past life.

Li Hang lived up to his reputation for being bold; it was as if his big brother's slap had instantly woken him up.

He looked at his brother, eager to try, as if asking him to teach him.

Li Yu smiled and told him to hold the knife tightly; it was sharp, so he should be careful not to hurt himself.

He told him to follow behind, and they searched the surroundings for the third police zombie.

Along the way, they encountered three more zombies; they looked like the onlookers from the supermarket earlier.

It really is better not to be a busybody...

With a step, he closed the distance, turned, and with two quick slashes, took care of two zombies.

He left the last one for Li Hang to kill.

Li Hang psyched himself up and shouted, "Oli-ge!"

The massive sound rushed toward the zombie, causing it to pause for a moment.

The sheer volume had confused the zombie.

"Damn it, you idiot, hurry up! Aunt and the others are still waiting!" Li Yu scolded him.

Li Hang shouted "Oli-ge" again and swung his knife down.

As a result, the knife got stuck in the middle of the skull.

...

Li Hang probably thought Li Yu’s move of chopping off a head looked cool, but he hadn't expected the skull to be so hard.

The zombie was still lunging forward with a knife stuck in its head.

Li Hang looked at the zombie right in front of him; its ugly, bloody face felt as if it were pressed against his own.

A foul stench hit him in the face.

"Pull it out and stab it!" Li Yu shouted.

Hearing Li Yu’s instruction, Li Hang pulled hard, extracted the knife, and stabbed it into the zombie's head with all his might. A spray of bloody foam erupted.

His face, which he had just wiped clean, was covered in blood and grime, but the zombie collapsed to the ground and stopped moving.

His bright eyes were full of pride.

"Don't get cocky, hurry up and help me find the other police zombie." Seeing Li Hang’s smug look, he couldn't help but say.

Finally, they found the zombie in the supermarket's storage room.

"Let me handle this." Seeing the zombie, Li Hang was eager to try again, hoping to wash away his previous shame.

But he didn't expect that this zombie had already discovered them. It came running, claws bared.

This zombie was much faster than the previous ones, standing nearly 1.9 meters tall with explosive muscles bulging from its arms.

Li Hang rushed forward and stabbed the zombie in the chest, but it didn't stop the creature.

"Stab the head! Only stabbing the head works!" Li Yu shouted from the side.

But at that very moment, the zombie erupted with immense strength, throwing Li Hang, who was trying to pull his knife out, to the side.
